Basically, the Romans conceived that, these greyhound dogs originated from Gaul, which is the land of Celts. On the other hand, Celts believed that they came from Greek, thus called Greek hounds. Still others give the simple explanation as, ‘the real color of dogs were gray in shade and thus the name gray dogs’. Murals and paintings of dogs strikingly similar to today’s greyhound existed over 4,000 years ago. These dogs provided good guard services but were mostly considered as wild animals.
